if you have not read my plea for visits in the last post please backtrack, but to answer a question…

mike has therapy usually in the afternoon since so many others get wiped out and can’t handle that timeframe and he seems to thrive with that just fine.  however there is no technical therapy time and they are very welcoming and open to visitors even during therapy.  it can last an hour or less depending on the amount of strain they are putting him through in that session.  i would say go whenever it works for you and see what is happening when you get there.  since there is no set schedule it is practically impossible to aim for or avoid something with mike.  sometimes he is in therapy, sometimes sleepy, sometimes awake and attentive.  but i would rather more visitors at inopportune times than less visitors during his awake and responsive stretches!

thanks and love!   michelle z  (ps, i love all the encouragement you send in posts here.  it feeds our souls!)

My verse yesterday was “Pray without ceasing.” How easily I forget to pray. I think of you all often but how often do I sit and pray. Well, not too much with 3 kids yelling most of day. So I am going to challenge myself and Walt to pray specifically for you a few minutes everyday. I challenge everyone else to do the same. If I was organized (not one of my gifts) I would organize another prayer vigil for all of you.

I hope to come visit again this week. This time I am going to sit in a chair. Then I can stay so much longer and babble on and on. I challenge everyone who reads the updates (and comments) to go visit. It really is great to see Mike. Each visit is easier and he changes each time I see him.

Remember “Pray without ceasing.” That is what I am going to be doing this week. God Bless! We love you!

    Love and unceasing prayers,
    Heather Schmidt

    Mike,
Thank you so much for listening to Mikayla read to you! And I know you said “Good Job”! Next time Alyssa will bring her music so she can play more songs for you. Maybe if she has her music she won’t get stage fright again. Anyway we enjoyed our brief visit with you. We will be back again soon, so get ready for more reading and flute music!

The kids all said you looked great! Keep up the hard work.

You continue to be in our prayers!!

    Love always,
    The Rodriguez’s

    Hey Michelle,

Just wanted to let you know in between our bi-monthly phone calls that the Winks are thinking about you. A picture of Eli came up on my computer last night and it just made me laugh. You’ve got funny kids. My youth group stuff starts up tonight and it makes me miss YL and the Z’s. I guess it would be about this time of year that I’d be looking for an excuse to get out of leader weekend…that definitely makes me laugh. Tell Mike that I said hi.

    peace,
    Molly

    Michelle,
I awakened this morning thinking about you and Mike, on this your 8th anniversary. I hope it’s a good day for Mike, and I hope God reveals a special blessing to you. Knowing the amazing perspective you possess, I bet you’ll find a hundred blessings just going through your usual day! Love you.

    Michelle,

I read your request to have friends visit Mike and I would like to stop by and spend some time with him. Please call me or send me an email with the address of the Manor Care facility where he is staying and what times are best to visit.

    Yours in Christ,

    Hi Michelle,

Mark, Megan and I went to visit Mike yesterday for the first time. It was good to finally see him. He has been in our daily prayers for so long now and the visit gave us a clearer understanding of continued need for prayer. The three of us rambled on a bit about Wyldlife camp (which our 8th grader Matt attended this summer) and Megan’s first meeting as a Senior leader on Sunday. During all of this talking Mike was pretty much a passive participant, but at two points in our visit, once when Mark asked him if he could read scripture to him and once when he asked if we could pray with him, did Mike try to verbally respond to our questions. His efforts were unmistakable, but we were not able to understand what he was trying to say.

I have thought a lot about him since we left the room yesterday and I guess what I realized the most is how much he still longs to hear the Word and how important it is to him to be connected to God through prayer, two things we can often take for granted in our daily/busy lives. What a lesson he has taught me, that I too should seek to hear the Word and long to spend time with God in prayer at all times and in all things. Funny when we think that we are witnessing to others, how they can give a greater witness back to us.

We all want to return to visit Mike again. Megan was wondering if Mike would enjoy being read to occasionally. If you think so, does he have a favorite book or subject matter? If you have time to email and let us know, that would be great.

God’s peace be with you, KIM
