we had some temporary complications getting mike’s original trach type put back in after they had to switch it out during surgery. that didn’t get done until friday evening so we couldn’t get discharged until friday night. but the last 2 mornings mike has awoken calm and quiet (instead of screaming & crying out in pain) for the first time in approximately a year barring when he has been sick and unconscious. so we are already praising God for what ultimately is a miracle in mike’s daily life. his muscles are more relaxed–i can move his limbs a lot more easily. and he can be in his wheelchair without any discomfort. i think he is adjusting still from a physically stressful week. he has some headaches and is a bit whispery which drives me nuts. but he is pretty much pain-free. next i will try to book another evaluation with marianjoy rehab hospital to see what new goals we can strive for in rehab. we are a bit worn out with the details of this past week but the truth is it is hard to be more eloquent when the reality is too good for words. mike is pain-free. i wasn’t sure that would ever be true again in his lifetime. praise God from whom ALL blessings flow, michelle

Praise God! What a RELIEF this is for Mike……for you. Be encouraged as you advocate for Mike’s best during this interim time when he must depend on you for these things–you’re doing a terrific job.

I visited a friend at MarianJoy last night and it brought back memories of the tough shape Mike was in a year ago. And I remembered the football analogy someone posted back then.

The first half of the game was rough. I’d guess we’re somewhere in the middle of the third quarter and the HOME TEAM is coming back strong. The crowd is going wild. Go Mike Go!

Mike and Family, You have been on our prayer list here in Naperville. We ask that God continue to give you healing and to bring you to your fullest potential. Having visited others at Marionjoy over the years, I know that you are receiving special care. as St. Paul said in Romans 5: “…and we also boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because god’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” May that hope be kept alive in your days ahead as children of God.
    Peace, Pastor Allen W. Belanger
