just got back from mike’s Dr visit at marianjoy rehab hospital. the dr recommended mike get a baclofen pump inserted in his gut. i was sent home with a folder full of info which i am sure will educate me so that we can move forward. the pump is meant to decrease mike’s muscle tone and spasms. this would allow him more control of his musles in order to make more physical gains. it ideally would also help wih his pain which is all seemingly muscle related. it would mean a surgery and a month more or so to adjust the pump’s dosage to mike’s needs before being reevaluated for therapy again. but i feel excited about this potential new step leading to more significant progress. in our time after the appointment we meandered over to mike’s old digs at the hospital and were lucky enough to see his old therapists. i cannot actually describe how it feels to be in a crowd of people interested, concerned, and eager for mike in the way they were. we are all looking forward to getting him back into their encompassing care. i am so thankful again for the people God has placed around mike who have cared for him with such immense compassion and enthusiasm. i praise him for how he never lets us out of his own perfect providence. i must say i wish mike had been more talkative for them but we are both pretty wiped from a long week. anyhow, more details of new developments will be coming in time. pray for this pump, for our wisdom, for the future. thanks, michelle

Happy Birthday! (thanks to Brent for letting us all know it’s your b-day).

Glad to hear that you heard some encouraging possibilities.
We Love you all and continue to keep you all and those who care for Mike in our prayers. I’ll be in touch to see if we can take the kids one more time before school starts, my kids would like to take them to the zoo!! May God continue to be your strength.

What a joy to worship with you last night! Mike looks great and he was trying hard to talk with me. He’s probably telling me to persevere in my medical trials, small as they are next to his challenges.

And thanks for your encouragement, Michelle, and your insight. I’m learning a lot, and it’s all good.

    In Him,

Thanks as always for your honesty and candidness….You are an incredible advocate for your husband….I am sure you have heard Mother Teresa’s quote a million times…..but it makes me always think of you. “I know that God will not give me more than I can handle, but why does he trust me so much?” He has divinely equipped you, but so many days I wish for an extended break for you from your life’s work….May He continue to lift and carry you in the valleys and mountaintops. I will continue to pray.

Hi M&M, Read recent updates. You both have very busy lives!
The Wed. evening worship in your home gives you both a chance to connect with people and our Saviour. Hope the new meds. relieve Mike of his pain; that has to be exhausting for both of you!

Don’t know if we will be at the golf outing late Sept. Still trying to hang on to summer fun (especially since my husband is no longer coaching football ).

We had a visiting priest at St. Max last Sunday. Gave a great homily; compared the mania of football to our faith and the winning of the game to our salvation .

The best to the M&M’s. db

Just a note to encourage visitors to Mike – I have had real conversations with Mike the last two times I’ve visited. He even tried to trick me into giving him a Krispy Kreme donut with his wry Z-smile. His voice is quiet and his sentences limited to a few words but he is definitely tracking and alert and returing to his old self. I have to think more visitors and therefore more interaction is good for him. So don’t fear what might have been so awkward before – visit and pray and joke with him just like you did before. You WILL be blessed!

I have to say AMEN to Matt’s comment! It was so cool to be at worship on Michelle’s birthday a few weeks ago. We sang Happy Birthday to Michelle- it was the first time I have seen Mike mouth the words to a song. He stared at his wife and sang to her- how cool is that!!!! I also had a great interaction with Mike a few days ago. He was very excited to talk with me and ask me a ton of questions when I told him we were house hunting. I was also blessed with a big smile! I was encouraged and a bit giddy when telling my husband about it later. Michelle is great company (don’t take this the wrong way), but he needs to see other faces too! He lights up. Don’t worry about what to say, just tell him about your life. My prayer (like Matt’s) is that you will be as blessed by a visit to him as he is by your coming. If you haven’t seen him in awhile you will be surprised by the progress!

Thank you, Beth and Matt for your postings and encouraging others to visit Mike and Michelle. Michelle, I stand amazed once again by your strength (which I know is God-given)! Thank you for sharing what you and Mike need. I have been praying for months for friends to really make a commitment to visit Mike on a weekly basis. My prayer has been fairly specific that at least three men would be there at least one time a week to converse with Mike. You know if I were there I’d be talking his ear off and asking him tons of questions!! (I am rarely without words, for those of you who don’t know me at all. I am married to Mike’s brother, Dan.)

We, Mike’s family, count on you dear local friends of Mike and Michelle’s to encourage them on a daily and weekly basis since we are in Cincinnati. We are thankful for you who are the hands and feet of Christ ministering to Mike and his family in such special ways. “Thank you” doesn’t seem to suffice, but thank you is all I know to say.

Michelle, I hope tonight is special for you and Mike and that there is a great turnout for worship! I love you and Mike so much! Give hugs to McKaela and Eli from Aunt Heather!

    Hi Michelle,

I just wanted to let you know that I am continually thinking and praying for all of you. Everytime I drive past Merrimac you are on my mind. Hope you are ok and getting back into the school swing of things. As always if you need anything please call, or if you need to escape and your kids need somewhere new to play please let me know. Anna would love it. God bless you all!! May God continue to give you strength, peace and courage. God Bless!

    Love and prayers,
    Heather Schmidt
