we had some sweet old friends over last night telling stories and making michael smile as he listened.  it has been a little while since i saw him smile.  he still looked asleep but apparently he sits quietly waiting for a punchline.  for the most part he is still not communicating much–a sentence or 2 a day.  but that is improvement.  he is discharged from active therapy due to lack of participation so we are responsible for exercising him ourselves every day to retain his range.  he is experiencing some more pain than usual with episodes of muscle rigidity.  it sometimes makes him cry out a bit or moan but usually passes in about 10 minutes.  mckaela sat with me and sang to him during one of these moments today.

every day has its trials–there is no reason to pretend otherwise–but “his grace is sufficient for me”, for us.  amen and thanks.

Michelle, you and Mike are in our hearts and prayers. TJ has given us periodic updates on news and progress and the Christmas letter from your Mom and Dad was a joyous account of your family’s adventures. I see your parents, TJ and Susan’s family at church and I miss seeing you and Julie. It’s been a long time since the neighborhood days but those memories never fade. God bless you sweetheart and we will continue to pray for positive news. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family!

Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. My heart aches with you as I hear about your pain. I am so thankful to hear how your children love and care for you. So many children have distant fathers who never allow anyone to help them. It is a gift that they are allowed to serve and love you the way that they do. You and Michelle are a testemony to them of God’s grace and steadfast love. May the God of all comfort embrace you as you persevere.
    In Christ,
    -Andy Walser
