I have had a few harder than normal visits with Mike this week.  He is full of things to say and I can't always catch what they are.  Sometimes i am elated and stunned at how clearly he says my name or hello or good morning or lay down.  And other times we struggle for a half hour trying so persistently to communicate one simple sentence.  It is draining and disappointing to both of us and i feel torn between pushing him to try to repeat it for the millionth time or begging to give up and quit the frustration.  Tonight after we both felt like cursing I remembered the truth.  And i told him.  "I praise God for what you say.  Whether I understand it today or not.  It is pure blessing to hear your voice.  I didn't always know I ever would hear your voice again.  My understanding, your clarity, will come."

I thank God again for where we have been, where we are, and where we are going.  God's gifts have been found sufficient for each step of this journey.  Thanks again for your sustaining prayer over this long haul.                     –michelle

    Mike & Michelle,

    Your updates are so encouraging. How wonderful when our prayers are heard and God blesses us so richly! I’ll be visiting Mike this afternoon and can’t wait to see him – and hopefully Michelle too. You’re always in my prayers but I can’t wait to be in your presence!

    Sharing in your story from last night, as I have tremendous difficulty communicating with my dear mom who suffers with Parkinson’s. I have told her many times, ‘Mom, it’s so good to hear your voice.’

    I thank God for this entire journey with the Zegarski family. Praise Him for all that He has done and will continue to do.

    Our family thanks God for YL and all the leadership. I thank God for all the people who write encouragements. I’ve learned so much!

    Thank you for sharing your journey with us! I check your blog everyday and I’m continually amazed at how far God has restored Mike. I can’t even begin to imagine the roller coaster of feelings you are on, but I praise God for your continued faith and perseverance. Thank you for your faithful witness during this journey. You inspire hope.

    Michelle-
    What a beautiful, wise and patient response to a frustrating situation. I have observed it time and again with you and am so inspired by the way God is working in your lives and through your faith. I am praying for a successful trach removal today and that this will be the beginning of easier communication for Mike. It is a great sign that he is persistant and determined to communicate. You continue to be faithfully in our prayers.

    I hope the song lyrics from Mountain of God by Third Day will encourage your heart today.

And I pray that you , being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

    This is my prayer for you and for Mike, that you would sense God’s presence and love, especially on the discouraging days.

    Hi Michelle,

    It is wonderful that Mike is trying to communicate! I know how frustrating it can be but hang in there – it will get better. In the mean time, (if you have not already tried this) get a copy of the letters of the alphabet and if it is possible for Mike to point have him try to spell things out by pointing. I don’t know if you have had a chance to talk with the speech therapist about what is happening but ask her/him for some advice. There are so many different kinds of communication devices available. I’m sure there is something they can find that can be used to ease frustration while Mike is learning to speak again.
    If they don’t come up with something let met know – I know lots of spech therapists!

    We’re keeping you and your family in our prayers! Hang in there! It sounds like you are doing a great jub!

    Michelle-
    I have also been thinking a lot about the communication difficulties and was about to suggest the same thing as Kay. If Mike can’t point to the letters, maybe you could point and he could shake his head yes or no? Just a thought. Maybe you could write out some specifics words or beginnings of sentences such as, I need…, Do you know…, Where is…and he could try to complete the rest by the letters? I just think there has to be something to make it easier for both of you. I will keep this also in my prayers for you.
