Surgery went well…no problems.  We are praying that there are no infection complications and that the shunt needs no adjusting.  Mike is still sleeping from surgery.  Pray that he is feeling good and encouraged as he wakes up.  Naps are nice and I am going try to snag one myself right now.       — michelle

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Mike's surgery is scheduled for Friday at 1:00 pm.  Pray for a smooth procedure and a fast surgery-recovery, so that Mike can return to Marionjoy's rehabilitation program as soon as possible.

As I was typing those words, I remembered that it was the fluid problem (which this surgery should resolve) that first extended Mike's stay in the ICU, and which, in turn, allowed some additional time for Mike to become eligible for Marionjoy.  Even in the midst of the frustration which attended Mike's return to the ICU, I am sure that many of us suspected that God had used the problem for Mike's benefit.  Truly, "in all things God works for the good of those who love Him."

I think that I have often misunderstood the call to be thankful in all situations as simply having value in being the "higher" or "nobler" or more faithful response to adversity.  Thankfulness may indeed be all those things, but we should be thankful in the face of adversity for another reason, perhaps more obvious:  that some bit of adversity may really have been just what the "Doctor" ordered.  (It would certainly seem so in this case.)

As always, thanks for checking in on Mike.
