It appears that Mike will not be having a permanent drain (shunt) installed for now, which is wonderful news. His doctors are satisfied that he will be able to overcome the fluid issue without the artificial assistance of a shunt. Of course, this may be an issue which recurs for awhile, and it could interfere with therapy if Mike needs to be transferred to address it, so please remember this matter in your prayers. (It might seem like a small issue, but anything that can get in the way of therapy is significant.)

Most likely, Mike will return to RML Specialty Hospital early next week. He continues to show alertness, on and off, throughout his days, and we hope to see him continue to build on this foundation.

Heather Schmidt recently asked if everyone's notes were helpful to Mike's family. I know that the words of support and prayer are an encouragement to all who read them; and they are so much more than that. They remind us of the far-reaching impact which Mike and Michelle continue to have, and of their deep faith — a faith which finds expression (also) in a willingness to share this experience and to allow others to lift them up.  It is a real joy to see, even a glimpse, of what Mike and Michelle mean to all of you, and we thank you for that.  I haven't the words to tell you what they mean to us.

Heather shared her favorite Psalm as well:

I lift up my eyes to the hill-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip- he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you- the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, not the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Psalm 121
