Mike has shown some excellent responsiveness today.  He has opened his eyes on request, and he has opened his mouth and stuck out his tongue on request.  In addition, shook his head "no" in response to being asked if he was cold.  He also showed two fingers, and "waved" with his hand (having had help to raise his arm).

His physical therapists are working with him, and, during the sessions, they are asking him questions, and asking that he try to do various things.  It's wonderful to note how numerous and how varied the "showings" have been today.  And the week's not over!

Pray that Mike will soon be able to show some larger body movements, like raising his arms and legs.  (You may remember that he raised his right arm previously.)  Being able to then coordinate his movements (for example, to touch his nose) would be an important showing, relating to placement in a rehabilitation hospital.

Beth Griebel shared this hopeful verse:

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen” 1 Peter 5:10-11

to mike and michelle, personal…i was secretary of young life in dayton when mike was a volunteer leader, and just heard of this situation from dave etling…we are praying and will continue to pass the request along. please be encouraged that our god is a faithful god, and i know this personally. in 1989 my son, steve, was in a severe car accidentleaving his body and more important, his brain, in a scramble. he was put in a coma for several weeks, pressure inside gradually subsided, he spent time in the neuro unit after weeks in icu, and gradually went thru all types of rehabilitation. our church and many friends supported us all in prayer and physically…and at the end of the hospital time, a doctor told me to take him home and teach him to do housework. i responded i reject that in the name of jesus…and at the end of the summer steve returned to miami u for his senior year…he took a lesser load of courses, but graduated in august…and i have shared this many times… i learned several things…do not allow mike to hear disparaging comments from doctors and nurses, he needs to stay positive…read scripture aloud daily, for it will feed his spirit…be there as much as possible…steve really counted on this (of course we learned this later)…dont hesitate to ask for help…one dear friend did my laundry…humbling, but necessary…and i have to say this was one of the strongest times in my life, i’m sure because of the prayer support. my favorite scripture from this time is “they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint…and the song ends, “teach me LORD teach me LORD to wait… well, i’ve rambled long enough, much love to you two, barbara mohn
