Mike's physical therapist reported that, today, Mike sqeezed and released both hands on request (still stronger on the right side), and that he opened his eyes on request!  Are you sitting down?  He also raised his right arm for her when she asked him to help her to do it, and she indicated that she saw some flexion of muscle!!!  (Probably just showing off.)

Mike's neurosurgeons want to allow another week for dissipation of fluid before a transfer will occur, so another CT scan will occur on Monday.  The additional time in the ICU will give him more opportunity for better and more consistent responsiveness, which is being evaluated continuously as the rehabilitation facility best-suited to his care is determined.

Excepting only his first day in the hospital – when Mike's life was saved – this may have been his best single day of recovery yet!  Grace really is amazing.

“I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.” Psalm 9:1-2

WOO HOO MIKE!! YEAH!! Four weeks after the initial injury and we are seeing such huge steps forward. Mike, we shouldn’t be surprised by you striving to always do better! Keep pushing and we will all keep praying. Rest in the palm of our God, Mike! He is HUGE and nothing is impossible. We love you all!
    Trusting in HIM,
    Beth and Dan

“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8

I am a reluctant blogger, but like so many of you I read eagerly about Mike’s progress. I am always amazed and encouraged by the updates and the comments. I frequently look in on Mike because I of my employment at Edward Hospital. Mike has a new look now! His hair is cut very short and it is appropriate for someone starting “boot camp”. I pray that Mike has been restored on the inside and is ready to begin the hard work of an athlete to retrain the outside. Remember for a sprinter to take just one second off of his time takes grit and determination. We believe in you MIke! Love and Prayers, B, S M & M

Praise God! That is so great! Thanks again for your faithfulness in keeping us all up to date even though we may not respond to every message… I know people are reading and praying. Even my grandparents who have no knowledge of Mike other than his brotherhood with Christ!

    Take care.

I was very pleased and thankful to see the update and very promising step to recovery. In Acts 6:8 we see God’s grace and power to show us signs. Mike each day continues to give us signs that he is courageous and fighting. And as in Psalm 52:8, the setting of a spring day is very similar in that Mike is flourishing each day and continues to work hard to regain his strength. Congratulations Mike on your progress and as always continued prayers each day for continued progress. One step at a time and you will be there..

    Acts 6:8
A man full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.

    Psalm 52:8
But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

What a perfect day to check in on Mike’s progress!! I don’t know the family well, but I know lots of people who hold your family near and dear (Maples, Swensons, Zaks, etc.). I think the work Young Life does is extraordinary and Mike’s name is synonomous with that… You are all in my thoughts and prayers each and every day. With Love, Donna and the Rigert family
