Good news: Mike has been breathing on his own since 6:00 a.m. this morning, and it is hoped that he will be able to continue for a 24-hour trial.  Tomorrow, he will undergo a follow-up CT scan, to determine whether any surgical intervention is necessary to relieve fluid build-up.  Of course, we pray that no surgery will be necessary, and that Mike can soon move on to a rehabilitation clinic.

Mike has opened his eyes in response to a physical stimulus at least once today, and he may be trying to track visually, but it is difficult to determine.  He has not shown responsiveness to verbal requests today, as of this posting, though one of Mike's visitors reported to the nurse that he may have shown some finger movement in response to a request.  (The nurse did not see this at one of Mike's checks, so it could not be reported as such.)

That's all they could tell us at this time.  I don't like "bumping" Michelle's letter, so make sure you read it below.  And thanks for checking in.

    Mike and Michelle,
today’s devotional from Blessings Every Day-same author as What is God Like? for those who do not know these are written for children.
    *****************
    “Deep Roots”

Only the godly have deep roots. Prov. 12:3
what a testimony this website is to God: the giver of deep roots.

…But trees that have roots deep in the ground are a lot more likely to stay standing, no matter how strong the storm. God wants us to plant our “roots” in Him. The more we know about Him and the more we turst Him, the deeper our roots will go. And those roots will help us stand in good times and in bad.

Just like a tree, Mike and Michelle your roots are strong. We’ll all trust in God our whole life long.
    ***************
May you receive the tangible strength, comfort, peace, endurance, and love of our Lord and Savior Jesus. He is Risen!!! Praying for you as you persevere until the time we can say Mike has risen. God be with you, Melissa

    Mike-
Way to go! We are cheering for you and constantly praying for you. I loved Reed’s prayer tonight, that Jesus’s healing hand would reach down and touch you. (He’s only 7). He is our prayer warrior and always wants to stay current with you. We miss you and love the whole family, Robin Hersma

Dearest Michelle, Everywhere I go everyone asks about Mike and how you all are doing. Today in Nebraska you were prayed for. Your words of humility and faith in Christ are overwhelming and witness something that most people cannot even put into words. We celebrate every little response of Mike’s and are privileged to call you all friends and partners in this journey. May the God of resurrection bring healing and peace to Mike and all the Zegarski’s…Much love, Gail

We are so excited to hear every little step Mike takes in a positive direction. It is so encouraging to check this site through out the day and hear how the Lord is working in Mike, Michelle and the rest of the family. We love you all so much and anxiously wait to see what God will do next. I know the Lord is meeting Mike in ways that were never possible before and we look forward to hearing all God has taught our dear friend when he wakes up.

“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:5-8

God has truly been the refuge for so many people in the midst of this; it is obvious from all the posts. I am thankful that we have a God that not only allows us to pour out our hearts to him, but he waits for us to do so. Keep praying and pouring out requests to our POWERFUL God!!!
    Love you Z clan

Michelle-Last night Michael’s wife Kate gave birth to their first child- a beautiful baby boy. I know “Z” would have been one of the first people Michael would have called to share this exciting news. Please share with Mike this good news and remind him once again how much we love him and are praying for him.

    Michelle and family-
I want to share with you a passage I read in my Bible study this week that I think is so appropriate being Easter week, and the faith that both you and Mike live out so beautifully!
“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven-and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all-life healed and whole.
I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure;genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have in display as evidence of his victory.
You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him-with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation.”
    1 Peter 1:3-9 The Message
Michelle- Your faith and trust does shine with laughter and singing, and you and Mike have faith proved genuine. May this Word encourage you. love you, Robin
