3/26 11:15 p.m. (Letter from Michelle to all)

There is no way to explain the peace I feel. From the world's perspective this is all a horror. But I feel like singing so much of the time. Only from the vantage point of eternity do I know that this is merely a moment. And so I know that God has charge. Still he encourages us to bring our requests straight to his "throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need" Hebrews 4:16.  This week has given me a glimpse of the church, the body of believers united in spirit, formidable in prayer as we claim God's promises for healing this Michael of mine.

THANK YOU for your persistence in prayer which Rev. 5:8, 8:4 compares to incense. I know God is enjoying the smell his people are cooking up. He is a sweet God and every day I am reminded that his grace is sufficient for me. Each and every one of you is his tool. Love has become tangible in wagonfuls of cereals and snacks, endless meals, flowers, gifts, cards, verses, notes (and love wraps me in a special quilt). The verses and hymns you share feed me even more than the yummy treats delivered. I struggle to think of any unmet need when flooded with requests to help.

God is at work. Undeniably in Mike. Obviously surrounding me. And hopefully in each of you as you suffer and rejoice with us as the indispensable, invaluable body of Christ! Each name signed reminds me of a memory and lifetime of blessing. I will never be able to thank you all for the abundance. But know that you deliver grace, laughter, joy and gratitude with each word. You point me back to the Savior even when I am tired or covered in my daughter's vomit.

And don't forget he is called the Savior for a reason. I wait in eager expectation for God to deliver him home to us to dance with McKaela, to supervise Eli's tummy time, and (God forbid I admit I could ever miss it) to harass me back into my Pilates schedule.

Love, peace and hope,

Michelle z

Words cannot express how touched we are by your faith and courage. Although we are many miles away, our thoughts and prayers are right there with you. If you only knew how many people in the Northwest alone are praying for you, Mike, Michelle, and family!

you don’t know me but i’ve been praying for mike and your family ever since i’ve heard. i lead yl in lexington, ky, and i just wanted you to know that tonight at our campaigners meeting i was talking about being satisfied in Christ and i used your strength in this situation as an example of what our lives look like when we are satisfied in Christ and how our circumstances don’t effect the amount of peace He gives us. I read in the first entry that you were solid as a rock and it just stuck with me so I had to use it tonight : ) i just read this and it backed up everything i said. i’m positive your life has been an amazing light to those around you in this situation and that God is using this incredibly. i’ll be praying and i’m positive that God will pull Mike through this and make him stronger because of it.
    in Christ’s love,

Michelle while I have not seen you in quite some time I want you to know how much you and Mike have done for me in my faith. While it took me awhile God knew the two of you had to be my stepping stone. I thanks God everyday that you two came into my life. I was blown away when my brother told me what happend to Mike. I want you to know that constantly my thoughts and prayers are with you and Mike. Many of my friends have also promised to pray for you and Mike and I will continue to pray for Mikes recovery. Each day I read the updates I feel the presence of God working and I am even more convinenced by the power of prayer.

I’m so glad I got to see you today at church…just getting to talk to you and see your face made me realize how much God is shining through you right now. Your faith is incredibly strong, undeniable, and just radiates by your actions. I truly feel that Mike is going to come out of this and there will be a day of rejoicing for all of us, and most importantly for you and the kids. I look forward to this, as it will be a great, great day. I will keep you guys in my prayers until it happens. Mike has been one of the most influential figures in my life, and I just hope I get the opportunity to thank him for everything he’s done for me. Take care and God Bless.

You don’t know us, but Dan & Heather are our dear friends in Cincinnati. My heart goes out to you my dear sister-in-Christ.
I am sitting here with tears in my eyes, not quite able to comprehend what you are going through right now. Our great Lord & Savior has given you an undeniable amount of strength & peace. He IS at work in a hospital in Chicago! His name is being glorified through all of what you & Mike (& the rest of your family) are going through.
Please know that our prayers are with you!!!

I am a friend of Mikes from Alter in Kettering. Please know that I pray for you and for “Z” every day. Continue to be a ROCK of strength. Your message helped give me comfort and peace as I read your words. There is a ton of love and support from Ohio in Mike’s old stopping grounds. I pray that God continues to blanket your family and friends with love every day.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills –
where does my hope come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:1-2

Thanks for your example of faith to all of us, Michelle. Your Wyldlife kids ask me how you are faring and I tell them you are not crumbling, that the things you teach them – you mean them way down in your soul. They are praying in their childlike faith for you and Mike – we all are.
A few weeks ago when we held intern interviews, Mike and I were teamed together when he heard Mckaela downstairs. I am holding onto that smile he shot me as he excused himself out of the room to go see her, and you, and Eli. I pray fervently that our Lord sees fit to send him to you all, complete and healed, in a witness of His complete sovereignty over our lives and bodies.
Love to you all – Tracy

Thank you for your message. God is so obviously right with you guys. That is such a hard thing to teach and to understand until you see it so undeniably through someone. I am so excited that Mike showed two fingers. i am thankful that he is there, and listening, and healing. – Mike and Mitzi

    Michelle & Family:
I have been reading on Mike’s progress daily and the strength that God continues to give to all of you. God is good and faithful and doesn’t abandon in the darkest hours. It is evident that He is with you, Mike, the kids, and your families.

Please know that we are praying for all of you. Thank you for taking the time to update this website inlight of all that you are going through. Remember, it’s not important that we know every detail–it’s most important that we pray. God knows the details–we need to simply be prayer warriors at this time.

Blessings to all of you and may “The peace that passes all understanding” be yours during this time.

    Love and prayers,
    Michele, Eric & Amanda

    Dear Family,

Last year, my 41 year old sister went through a similar type of brain injury. She had an aneurysm complicated by an unknown disease called Moya Moya. To say her prognosis was grim would be an understatement, however my family like your turned to God and we received a complete miracle. My sister is 100% perfect. Something her surgeon told us to pray for. Our prayers were answered 100 fold. Since hearing about Mike, we’ve all been praying for him too.
My family believes my sister’s healing was intereceded by a powerful novena we did to the infant Jesus. I am sending it to you.

O Jesus, Who has said, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.” through the intercession of Mary, Thy most holy Mother, I knock, I seek, I ask that my prayer be granted (Mention your request)
O Jesus, Who has said, “All that you ask of the Father in My Name He will grant you” through the intercession of Mary Thy most holy Mother, I humbly and urgently ask Thy Father in Thy Name that my prayer will be granted. (Mention your request)
O Jesus, Who has said, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My word shall not passs away,” through the intercession of Mry, Thy most holy Mother, I feel confident that my prayer will be granted. (Mention your request)

    God Bless!

Kara and I have been reading regularly. We have been praying alongside you in the requests that you have posted as well as for just this sense of peace that you are enjoying right now. We care deeply for you and are excited to see how God will use this for his Kingdom work, in your lives, and in the lives of the many you have touched.

    In Christ.

My sweet friend, I thank you for your words. You have always had an amazing way of speaking truth, no matter what the circumstance. This is one of the many reasons I love you so much and consider you such a cherished friend and sister in Christ. Know that you are an example of steadfast faith to me in so many ways. This just solidifies it even more. All are encouraged by your constant rejoicing in our Savior and I know God WILL work a miracle in Mike. He has more work to do, more kids to love and you to harass, for whatever reason he chooses. I love you my sweet sister and I know that God gives you the wisdom, strength and courage to face every minute of each day. I love you so much.

“Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.” Psalm 71:3

“But as for me, I will ALWAYS have hope; I will praise you more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure. I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone.” Psalm 71:14-16

You don’t know me, but I wanted to share with you the story of my daughter, Mary, who contracted viral encephalitis 2 years ago, when she was 3 1/2 years old. Her illness (an infection of the brain) wiped out all of her motor skills including language, eating, sitting- everything. Through the fervent prayers of our family and friends (and hundreds of people we never met), as well as lots of therapy she is now a normal 5 1/2 year old. I’ve been in a situation similar to what you may be going through now- keeping vigil- looking for small signs of awareness & meaningful movement, while trying to keep up with the household, visiting family members, and caring for other children still at home. Looking back on it now it is so obvious how God’s grace was at work in all of us. Because of Mary, people we didn’t know were inspired to pray when they hadn’t prayed in years. We also realized the love and committment of our family and extended family. Although it was a nightmare, my husband and I now look back on that time with fondness because we know God chose our daughter for a very special reason. God doesn’t give us more than we can handle. Hang in there. May God bless you all and may his grace sustain you through this difficult time.

    For all that you promise,
    and all that you are,
is all that will carry me through,
    Jesus, I thank you.

May you continue to lean on God’s promises, relying fully on Him.

Michelle, your faith truly amazes me. I couldn’t help but think of James 1:2-3 when reading what you said: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” I want you to know that Mike, his family, and yours are all in my prayers. Thank you for being such an example in Christ.
    love, Tracy.

    Mike & Michelle,
Words are difficult to come by when thinking of you and expressing what is on my heart. You are a very special couple and I miss our times we have shared together. For a couple of weeks the two of you and your family have been on my heart, mind and prayers, more than normal. You will continue to be. God is good even in the most difficult of circumstances. Our journey in Christ is always different than we think it will be, more difficult than we think it will be and better in the end in ways we do not expect or many times understand until years later. Thank you for your love. Thought miles, circumstances and cycles of life seperate us please know you are greatly appreciated and not forgotten.

Thank you, Michelle, for blessing me with your words…for putting your heart on paper (or computer screens) for me to see…for your clear example of joy and peace and grace…to God be the glory!

So I was thinking about stories of Mike and thought that maybe he would laugh thinking back to the University of Dayton (go Flyers!) days. Ask him if he remembers helping me with my English papers. See, I didn’t do so well in English, and Mike wanted me to lead with him at Alter, but my grades were not acceptable, so I had to wait an extra semester. Mike forbade me from turning anything in that he hadn’t edited for me. Seriously, there would be more of his handwriting on a typed page than there were typed words! I don’t think I would have made it through English without him. And then there was the house on Brown Street. Yikes. I helped clean it as a graduation present…I’m pretty sure I spent more than 2 hours washing dishes…

I just wanted to let you know that I have so much to thank you and your husband for. Kate Puvogel claims you two are the reason that she ever did a bible study with me. Those bible studies were one of the few life changing factors that led me to God. So thank you. God bless both of you, and I’ll keep Mike and the rest of the family in my prayers.

Christ in you amazes me. Despite how the situation may seem on the outside, I am so glad I get to see first hand how Christ gives us strength, how the body of Christ really CAN be unified, and how we NEVER STOP BELIEVING THAT GOD HAS A PLAN! I love you. “…since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,…”
    Col. 1:9-11
and I still say Mike is making the burgers this summer–’cause his are the best!
Thank you for sharing from your heart. You have a way with words, and put them together so beautifullly. ISAIAH 55!

I am praying for your husband. I am a walking/ breathing miracle who has recovered from a giant cavernous brain aneurysm last June. Our God is a faithful God and He will be glorified through this journey. I love your heart and your faith during this time. I pray for God’s richest blessings on your family during this time.

Michelle-what grace and strength you bring to each of us as we continue to pray for you, Mike, your children and Mike’s caregivers day and night, night and day. May God continue to grant you His peace and may you feel the body of Christ liifting you up as many of your and Mike’s family return to their homes for their week’s work. May the healing touch of God continue working in Mike for all to see. Mike will dance again with your daughter and he will share tummy time with your son, make burgers for friends as you both continue your incredible witness for Christ. God Bless.

If there was ever a family I’d trust to deal with a situation such as this I’d say it was yours. God is at work, and I know Mike’s spirit will trust in the Lord and he’ll make it through. I’ll look forward to checking in with you all in the summer, but until then my thoughts and prayers are with you guys.
    Staying Positive,

    Dear Zegarski Family,

Like so many others, I have never met you. Kirby Snell was a work crew kid on my husband’s assignment last summer at Trail West and sent a simple prayer request for Mike and the address to this website. This hit so close to home as my husband is an Area Director and we have two small children around the same age. As I read the latest blog, God did something very amazing. It was just one of those times when you know God has put something on your heart that you can’t ignore.
My task was simple and specific. With the help of two very special girlfriends, I sent an email with the website link asking them to join me in prayer every hour on the hour from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. They emailed me back immediately and were on board to lift this up. And then as I sat in front of my bible I began to mindlessly flip pages and literally stumbled upon a verse. Psalm 86:3 ” Have mercy on me, O lord, for I call on you all day long.”
What a sweet affirmation of what the Lord lead me to do for a family whom I’ve never met. In “Experiencing God”, the study, there is something that stuck with me when I read it and came back to me today. It basically says that as long as God knows where you are, he could cause anybody in the world to know where you are. As long as he knows the need, He could place that need on the heart of anybody he chose. I do believe he chose me and my two sweet friends to be part of something bigger than us. As I sit in Kingwood, TX and you in Illinois, I marvel at our God and know he is doing something eternal, significant, and faith building. I am honored that the ripples of what God is doing reached all the way to me and like Michelle am waiting in expectation.

You’re a rock. It’s incredible to see the way that God is using this to draw people closer to himself, and is using you to communicate to people that nothing can seperate us from his love. Thank you for inspiring the rest of us to remain faithful, and for setting such a strong example of what it means to trust in the Lord. We’ll all keep praying. God does miracles.
    In Him, Matt

You are truly an example to all of us, and a true work of God in how strong you can be through all of this. You give everyone hope through your kind and uplifting words. Thank you for everything you have done for me, for the YoungLife community, and for all the lives that you have had the blessing to touch. I know that you will stay strong with Him, and we are praying for and thinking about you constantly.

You have helped so many young people to grow into their spirituality in your time here in Naperville. One in my family has been a benefactor of your friendship and guidance and love. We have been so blessed to know the place your family holds in Liz’s life and want to thankyou for everything. Mike is in our thoughts and prayers and I have asked all the people I work with to lift your family up in prayer. Please let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do for you. Ken

I have not seen or talked to you in years but I wanted you to know that you, Mike, and all of the family is in my prayers. You and Mike were a blessing in my life during high school and I remember the many talks we had together. I am confident that God will bless you and your family. God has His hand at work as you are faithful to Him. You have been a blessing to Young Life and to many people. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! There are people here at Hope College praying for you. Stay Strong!
    God Bless

Wow, the TRUTH is being revealed and glorified! Reading all of the updates posted here on this site and reading so many of the comments, it is evident that God is using Mike and the Zegarski family to reveal himself. What an amazing testimony to WHO He is and HOW he works. Michelle- God has truly made you strong and has woven His love around you in so many wonderful and creative ways. He has given you

Isiah 41:5 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. . . but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. . . ”

I belive that God will heal Mike and that he will return home to Michelle and his two adorable children. I believe that God has already renewed so many of us already using Mike’s situation, seeing how strong Michelle is in Christ, and revealing what community really can be. Let’s continue to hope in the Lord and ask for Mike to be healed completely! ! I look forward to seeing Mike and Michelle with McKaela and Eli at NPC!
