We are told that Mike has had a more restful day today, after a morning meeting with one of his neurosurgeons at which Mike made an immediate response to a request that he "show us two fingers."  Mike quickly and fully extended the index fingers on both hands.

One of Mike's surgeons, Dr. Brayton, met with Mike and some family members for some time this morning.  As you might expect, this was a sobering discussion, but he did share with us that he did not expect Mike to have progressed as quickly as he has, following surgery.  Of course, he was also clear about the severity of the injury, but added that the surgical procedure itself went perfectly.  (Not an exact quote, but Mike's surgeon used the word "perfectly" and that is a beautiful word.)

Relating to Mike's efforts to "track" with his eyes, Dr. Brayton commented that he believes that, for now, Mike is likely tracking sound, and not tracking objects in his field of vision.  (Something specific to continue to pray about.)

Mike may undergo a CT scan tomorrow, and maybe some other testing as well.

Mike's brothers had to travel with their families back to their homes today, in order to return to work, and with hopes of returning next weekend.  Related to that, if information on the site slows, or is less specific at times, please don't take that to be meaningful in and of itself.  As you know, the site's primary purpose is to equip everyone who wishes to pray for Mike's recovery, and we will get out information to serve that purpose, and to encourage all.

Finally, many have requested to know how they can make a contribution to assist Mike and Michelle with expenses associated with Mike's surgery, ongoing medical care, and related matters.  These issues are being attended to, and information will be posted in the coming days.

Isn’t this website a blessing?! God gave me a verse earlier today from his living word that really spoke to what we’re going through:
“You heard my plea: ‘Do not close your ears to my cry for relief.’ You came near when I called you, and you said, ‘Do not fear.'” Lamentations 3:56-57
I got good feedback from the last post about the 24 HOURS OF PRAYER and wanted to follow up with some specifics. Since I am not internet savy I don’t have any way of creating a place for people to sign themselves up for a time, so instead I would love if you could e-mail me with the time you will be able to pray.
We will be praying in half hour time periods (but you are more than welcome to take a full hour if you want) starting at 6am on Thursday. My email address is annbanan@aol.com. Once I receive an email from you I will enter your name in a schedule which I will be posting periodically onto this website.
For those of you in Naperville, we are trying to arrange a place where you can go and pray during your time (such as the Young Life office) if there is enough interest, so let me know if that’s something you’d want.
God is hearing our pleas and is coming near to remind us not to fear. I’m excited to be partnering with so many people from so many places to be in prayer for Mike. Hope to hear from you soon!

I am praying daily for you, Mike & my little friends. The mentions of your strength and focused faith throughout this website make my heart smile: I know that no-nonsense, all-truth-focused faith well; your unwavering focus on Christ has continually pushed me to know Him more intimately. Mike couldn’t have anyone better fighting alongside him, reminding him and the rest of us to turn to God for strength and comfort. You Z’s are a part of my heart, and your faith shapes me. I love you.

    Dear Zegarski Family,
Although I do not know you on a personal level, I do know you through my husband (who is in Africa on a mission trip, and is praying for you) and many other lives you have touched. Please know that you are being lifted in prayer by other brothers and sisters in Christ who similarly do not know you personally, but do know of you through this amazing family of God that links us as one. We are praying for Mike’s miraculous healing and for God’s Peace to surround each one of you – believing that God,
“will do IMMEASURABLY MORE than all we ask or imagine through His Power at work in you.” (Ephesians 3:20)
    Love in Christ,
    IdaLynn Wenhold

    Dear Zegarskis,
This news is so encouraging! It is wonderful to hear from Michelle and to get a bird’s eye view of her tremendous faith. It is so true that our true colors show when we are in the valley or up against the wall. Praise God for faith that moves mountains! May the Lord heal Mike in response to our prayers, and may the hearts of those in and around that hospital ward be turned to the Great Physician by the example of this awesome family.
    Love to you all,
